Windows Phone 7 Mango Now Streaming Music Stored In Your SkyDrive Account

Microsoft Now Allows You To Stream Music Files From SkyDrive Using The Latest (7712) Windows Phone Mango Build

Microsoft has been giving a rather nice look at what to expect when Windows Phone 7 Mango rolls-out up until this point. And it seems more than likely that they will continue to do so in the lead up to the release, however this latest feature that we are being given a sneak peak at comes not from Microsoft. And to add that that, it is a feature that was once noted as not coming.

Well, maybe this was a case of it not coming soon, or not being a priority to come. Either way, it looks like those running the latest build (7712) of Windows Phone Mango are able to stream MP3 files from their SkyDrive account. In order to get to and stream your files you simply click on the Office tile, then your SkyDrive and then the Music folder (presumably where you would be storing your MP3 files).

From there, once you click on a specific file it will begin playing back. Of course, that is where it seems to get a bit confusing. At this time it seems like it is lacking functionality. Once you click on a file to play it, the phone takes you back to Internet Explorer, which is where the music file plays from.

Given that, it seems this functionality is either not yet fully developed, or just a side effect of another feature. Not to mention, we have yet to see how you would have it play multiple files in a playlist. From the demo that was given it seems to play one.

Anyway, while still early, it sounds like something that Windows Phone users (at least some) will find useful. And while Microsoft may not be trying to build a perfect music streaming phone, it seems like they would at least want some basic functionality. After all, other such as Apple with iCloud and Google with Google Music have something going with music.
