Samsung Galaxy S II Sign Up Page Available; No Release Date [Samsung Attain, Within, Function or Fascinate II, We Know the U.S. Galaxy S II Names, But No Details Regarding Pricing & Launch]

The Galaxy S II, while selling gloriously in other international markets, is yet to make its debut in the USA, but at least starting today those of you interested in buying the phone can use the sign up page Samsung has kindly provided.

Only yesterday we told you that the Galaxy S II, a handset launched officially at MWC 2011, where we took it for a live ride back in February, has sold so far in 5 million units, and Samsung achieved that performance without involving American carriers’ action so far. For some reason (is it the iPhone 4S/5 by any chance?) Samsung decided to postpone the launch of the Galaxy S II in the USA, at least compared to last year, and the main U.S. carriers also decided to keep quiet on any Galaxy S II launch plans for the past months.

We already know the names of the Galaxy S II versions for at least three of the Big Four carriers (with T-Mobile’s Galaxy S II handset still missing in action): the AT&T Attain, the Sprint Within and the Verizon Function/Fascinate II, but we have no official release dates for any of them, not to mention pricing details.

At first sight it would seem that the Galaxy S II should cost $199.99 with new two-year contracts, but that’s not so simple. Sprint’s and Verizon’s S II models may come with 4G support, WiMAX and LTE, respectively, which means we can expect them to be priced at either $249.99 or $299.99 with new contracts. As for the Attain, there’s some mystery there too, but not related to potential pricing as AT&T doesn’t have a real 4G network yet so a price increase wouldn’t exactly be justified. But the carrier is rumored to launch not one, but two Galaxy S II versions, one that would sport a full QWERTY slide-out keyboard and a regular candybar model.

With all this in mind we can’t but advise you to register with Samsung to receive more Galaxy S II news although it’s more likely that we’ll have all the launch details available for you ahead of the official announcements. In the mean time we’ll invite you to answer our poll regarding your upcoming Galaxy S II purchase: what carrier will you choose, AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, or, why not, U.S. Cellular (since the latter one does sell the original Galaxy S as the Mesmerize)?
