Logitech Revue Pricing Lowered To Where It Should Have Started — $99 [Logitech Loses Money In Q1, Decides To Lower The Revue with Google TV Price Down To $99]

While its always nice to be able to get a good deal on a product, it sort of takes the fun away when the product is the Logitech Revue with Google TV and it comes as a result of another person (company) hardship. Yup, Logitech has posted what they are describing as “flat year over year” retail sales and a loss of $30 million during the first quarter of fiscal year 2012.

And what that means for customers — you can now get a Logitech Revue with Google TV for what many would say should have been the price from the beginning — $99. And for those who may have forgotten, the Logitech Revue, despite being sold by Amazon for $199, was regularly being sold for $249.

“Logitech’s loss in Q1 was compounded by the significant impact of the decision to reduce the price of Logitech Revue from $249 to $99 during Q2. The action was taken with the goal of accelerating adoption of the Google TV platform by removing price as a barrier to broad consumer acceptance.”

Otherwise, given this news came along with the Q1 FY 2012 quarterly results, lets discuss some of the other tidbits of information that were released. To begin with, Logitech is parting ways with CEO Gerald P. Quindlen who will be replaced by former CEO Guerrino De Luca.

Speaking in terms of numbers. Some of the other highlights lowlights include how;

  • Sales for Q1 FY 2012 were $480 million compared to $479 million in Q1 FY 2011.
  • The Company posted an operating loss of $45 million, compared to operating income of $12 million in the same quarter a year ago.
  • The net loss for Q1 FY 2012 was $30 million ($0.17 per share) compared to net income of $20 million ($0.11 per share) in Q1 of FY 2011.
  • Included in Logitech’s Q1 FY 2012 operating loss is a $34 million charge to cost of goods sold due to a planned price reduction on Logitech Revue with Google TV.

    All said and done, if you were somehow still holding out for a Google TV, $99 seems like a fairly good price. But then again, judging from the way things seem to be going, we are not entirely sure how much longer the Revue is going to be around.
