Android App Developers Upset When Popular Apps Drop From Search Results

Android Market Sees App Listings Plummet With Little Response From Google

During the last month many Android app developers have seen their popular apps free fall in numbers of downloads because of some change in the search algorithm. Apps that have had high search rankings for keywords previously are now not even showing up. Some developers are seeing downloads drop as much as 80%.

As search functions in the Android Market go haywire, developers are even more upset with the lack of response from Google. There has been a problem since June 28 and early in July a Google representative said they were aware of the problem and were working on it. Now almost a month later Google is still silent.

Android has a support forum for users to post issues and find solutions. There has been a thread on those forums July 1 with many posters complaining about their apps flat disappearing. With over 1100 complaints listed on the thread the community is still looking for any kind of update.
