Netflix Adds Mad Men To Its Streaming Lineup
It’s been quite a couple weeks for Netflix. Calling them “roller coaster” weeks would really not be out of line at all. And whether you hate them, love them, or still think they’ve got a chance to shine, the big story right now is that they’ve just picked up another addition to their streaming lineup.

That’s right, folks, AMC’s hit series Mad Men joins the steadily expanding (but still woefully underpowered) streaming lineup that Netflix has to offer. They’ve been courting some fairly big deals of late, with places like Dreamworks looking to join the fold, but with outages being disturbingly frequent in recent days as well as plenty of residual anger still brewing over the recent price hikes, it’s news like this that is definitely going to keep the subscribers if not happy, then at least somewhat less enraged.
It also underscores a critical issue with Netflix: namely, the discrepancy between its disk-based library and its streaming library. While no one’s really got a problem with the number of titles Netflix is packing (admittedly, there have been some titles I’ve wanted that I can’t find–can you believe the complete series of Mr. Ed is currently over at Blockbuster Online but Netflix has never heard of a talking horse?), that doesn’t translate well into the streaming side of things. Loads of movies and TV shows that Netflix has had available to rent for months–years even, in some cases–are nowhere to be found when you check the streaming roster.
Sure, I know there are plenty of complicated rights issues involved with this whole matter, but the sooner Netflix gets this righted around the better off all its customers will be. And it’s steps like this that get the job done.
So what do you guys think? Is the addition of Mad Men to the Netflix roster sufficient to reduce your anger towards Netflix? Or is this a case of too little, too late to keep your business? Or were you just one of those folks who weren’t very upset with Netflix from the beginning? Either way, we want to hear from you, so head on down to the comments section and let’s talk Netflix!
