EA Announces Some Sales Numbers, Big Increase In Income [Electronic Arts Announces 15 Million Copies Of FIFA Sold, 9 Million Copies of Bad Company 2 Sold Among Other Popular Franchises]

Electronic Arts issued their Q1 financial earnings results today, and the company also took the time to talk about some of their more sales results. Not only did FIFA sell tons and tons of copies (what were you expecting), but EA also announced that they shipped a lot of copies of some of their more popular franchises.

Here’s how it broke down. Listed are all the sales numbers that EA announced in their earnings release:

  • FIFA 11 – 15 million units
  • Battlefield: Bad Company 2 – 9 million units
  • Crysis 2 – 3 million units
  • Dead Space 2 – 2 million units
  • Dragon Age 2 – 2 million units
  • Portal 2 – 2 million units

Note that all are “life-to-date”, except for Portal 2, which is just the first quarter numbers alone. Portal 2 is listed because while Valve officially published it themselves, EA distributed it for them, particularly the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game.

Generally, it was a good quarter for Electronic Arts. Their revenue was up some 230% from this time last year, $221 million compared to $96 million. Interesting to note that they saw a decrease in physical sales and an increase in digital sales. Hopefully, this means that we’re finally starting to see the general public begin to adapt to the digital marketplaces out there.

Bad Company 2 puts up a respectable 9 million units, though it’s outpaced by its rival Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops. This fall, all eyes will be on EA’s Battlefield 3 and if it can knock the Call of Duty king (Modern Warfare 3) off its sales throne.
