Toshiba Thrive Rooted; Instructions & Download Files Available
The Toshiba Thrive has just been out in the market a few weeks, and we now have a way to root the device. The rooting process is not as simple as downloading and running an app, though.

Rooting any Android device grants you access to settings and applications otherwise unavailable. These include apps that change the behavior of your smartphone or tablet, replace system applications, and gain root access to Android’s Linux underpinnings through a shell. Owners the new Toshiba Thrive would be glad to hear that the device has been rooted, and this can be done in a few (although not so easy) steps.
The Thrive Forums have the skinny on how to root the Thrive. It basically involves these steps:
- Download the Android SDK for drivers, so your Thrive can be recognized by your computer OS.
- Download the Clockwork Mod, a modified Boot.img and updatezip from the source.
- Files should be copied to the SD card.
- Reboot the Thrive.
- Execute a few commands to flash the boot image.
- Remount the system and SD card directories.
- Install superuser from Android Market.
That’s just a basic overview of how the Thrive rooting is done. Again, it’s not as easy as some Android smartphones and tablets that just require an app to run. Do check out the source link for detailed instructions and download links.
