Radio Shack Will Be Dumping T-Mobile & Bringing In Verizon Wireless

Radio Shack Announces Some Upcoming Changes, Come September Verizon Is Moving In & T-Mobile Is Moving Out

It looks like some changes will be coming to the wireless department at Radio Shack. And while these changes are not set to take effect until mid-September, it sounds like it will be good news for those looking for a deal on a new Verizon handset. And alternatively speaking, if you are looking to get a deal on a T-Mobile handset, your time to shop with Radio Shack is coming to an end.

Coming as of this morning, Radio Shack has announced that they will stop selling T-Mobile services come September 14th and start selling Verizon services as of September 15th. A case of out with the old and in with the new.

Jim Gooch, president and chief executive officer of RadioShack Corporation, commented on the new Verizon Wireless agreement, stating, “This is a substantial win for our customers, as this relationship with the nation’s largest wireless provider will further enhance our position as a leading multi-carrier wireless retailer. The addition of Verizon Wireless, in combination with our existing carrier partners, positions us to now offer the best assortment of carriers, rate plans, devices and accessories for every consumer need.”

All things considered, and I am sure that many T-Mobile customers would argue the other way, however given the current state of affairs in the mobile world — this seems to be a smart move on the part of Radio Shack. We also cannot help but wonder how much the potential AT&T acquisition of T-Mobile played into this decision. That said, Verizon has a solid device lineup at this time and they still have several devices that are set to come out as well as several more that are still in the early rumor stages.

According to the details provided by Radio Shack, the Verizon offerings will include both the hardware and the service required to use them and that the Verizon goodies will be available at the “more than 4,300 U.S. company-operated stores” and by way of the Radio Shack website.
