Nokia Touts 50,000 Apps

Nokia's Ovi Store Now Has 50,000 Apps With a 6 Million Daily Download Average

Yes, the toughest competition aka the Apple App Store boasts 425,000 apps, but Nokia’s Ovi App Store touts a steady increase in app number. From 48,000 apps last month, total numbers have reached a thriving 50,000. Likewise, an increase in download number (from 5 million to 6 million downloads, in fact) was observed.

Nokia credits the “increased demand for apps from the approximately 225-million strong Symbian customer base,” for the overall increase in numbers. Nokia’s move to Windows Mobile OS from Symbian is no secret, but as it will take 5 more years till the Symbian platform is complete retired, the Ovi store isn’t closing up shop anytime soon. It remains to be seen, however, if we’ll ever see the Ovi Store reach an astronomical number of total app count and download count in the future. Nonetheless, it seems to be doing quite well right now.

As of late, Nokia is busy prepping the MeeGo Nokia N9 smartphone for launch, and lucky Swedes get first dibs.
