Motorola Xoom Getting Price Cut From Verizon [Verizon Cuts The Price Of Xoom On Contract, Rumors & Leaked Documents Also Say That They're Going To Cut Full Retail Price]

When I reviewed the Motorola Xoom back in February, I found it to be a capable device with great hardware with some software bugs and a steep price. While they’ve addressed the software bugs with a few updates, now, Verizon is addressing the high price. The carrier has already updated the contract price on their website, and it looks like they’ll also be looking at lowering the “full retail” price of the device in stores.

If you check the Motorola Xoom on Verizon’s website, you’ll now see that the company is selling it for $499.99 with a new two-year contract commitment. Originally, the red carrier was selling the tablet for $599.99 with new contract and $799.99 without a contract.

In addition to the new contract price (which is confirmed because it’s on the carrier’s website) we have an unofficial report that they’ll be dropping the price for a tablet without a contract (the so-called “full retail price”) to $599.99. This comes from website Droid-Life, who received leaked information of a pricing slip. Take it as you will, but Droid-Life is pretty widely read by Android enthusiasts and they have a number of reliable Android tipsters.

The Xoom has hit the magic $500 pricepoint that everybody has said it needed to hit, although I think many folks will still say it’s a touch too expensive. Some Xooms are now getting the Android 3.2 update and it’s said to be a very stable tablet now, after the earlier issues. Some folks reported the tablet would crash constantly. I just noticed that it would have issues syncing. Automatic syncing was delayed, and when I told it to sync on demand, it would not do it or take five minutes. Reportedly, many of those issues have now been patched.
