Free Motorola Xoom 4G LTE Upgrade Confirmed for September

Verizon to Start the LTE Update in September; You’ll Still Have to Send Out Your Honeycomb Tablet

Earlier today we told you that Verizon is rumored to start the 4G LTE upgrade for the Motorola Xoom at some point in September and it looks like all of that has been confirmed; just take a look at the image below!

Verizon will offer all Motorola Xoom owners a free 4G LTE update, but in order to take advantage of it you’ll still have to pack up your device and mail it to Verizon/Motorola for the appropriate hardware upgrades to be made. In case your area is not yet covered by a comfortable LTE blanket yet, then you have nothing to be upset about. But if there’s plenty of LTE around, and you have been waiting for months for Verizon to bring real 4G speeds to your Xoom, then this news will certainly annoy you.

The tablet, announced at CES 2011, where we took it first for a spin (here’s our review) came to Verizon stores a lot earlier than the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Yet the latter is already prepared to offer 4G LTE speeds right out of the box, despite being officially launched only today in the USA.

Then again, with all this 4G talk going around especially in the USA, since other markets are yet to deploy LTE or WiMAX networks, some people may not be interested in LTE support after all. A recent study showed that some iPhone 4, customers believe they already have 4G support on the device when in fact the iPhone 4s can’t offer such perks to their owners which only proves that only informed customers may truly appreciate the advantages of faster Internet access.

Not to mention that while the 4G LTE upgrade is free for your Xoom, accessing and using Verizon’s LTE network is something entirely different; a privilege you’ll have to pay monthly fees for. But let’s hear it from you, Xoom owners, are you excited about this Xoom LTE features or not?
