First Duke Nukem Forever DLC Detailed [Gearbox Reveals The Parody Pack, The First DLC For Duke Nukem Forever That Adds New Game Modes, Multiplayer Maps & Weapons]

You may not have asked for it, but Gearbox and 2K Games are going to give it to you anyway. Gearbox has taken to Duke Nukem Forever‘s official forums to announce the first round of DLC for the for the shooter that time forgot, and you can get a full rundown of what’s included in it just past the break.

Honestly, even though Duke Nukem Forever was somewhat of a critical turd, I’m impressed that Gearbox is continuing to support it, and that the first DLC actually seems to be pretty substantial. Dubbed the “Parody Pack,” this DLC comes complete with three new multiplayer modes, four new multiplayer maps, and four new weapons.

Of the new modes, Freeze Tag sound the most intriguing. It tasks players with freezing and shattering the members of the other team. The longer you can go without getting frozen and broken into thousands of pieces yourself, the higher your combo goes and the more points you earn. There’s also Hot Potato, which is a competition to see who can hold onto the babe the longest, and finally Hail to the King, which is your traditional free-for-all mode.

As for the new maps, well, I’ll just let Gearbox explain those, that way you can understand what they mean when they say “Parody Pack”:

  • Call of Duke – Duke engages in modern combat in a war-torn city. Foes don’t stand a chance against the Duke when he spams the map with the N00b T00b.
  • Sandbox – Players take the role of mini-Duke in a giant sandbox with two bases at either end made out of children’s toys. This map features Sticky Bombs.
  • Inferno – Time machine engage! Duke does combat in a hellish landscape of lava and teleporters. Who turned on the 16-bit graphics, and more importantly, where did this DFG come from?
  • 2Forts1Bridge – Hats? Duke doesn’t need no stinking hats. Give him a minigun and he’ll beat off all comers.

Did you catch the parody in there? Yeah, it was kind of lame, and I think that Gearbox should probably just stop making fun of other games through Duke Nukem Forever – there always seems to be an angry reaction from gamers whenever they do.

Is anyone excited for this Duke Nukem Forever DLC? Like I said, it’s great that they’re supporting Duke Nukem Forever even though it was met with lackluster reviews, but hopefully they don’t spend too long on DNF DLC; I’d actually like to see what they can do with the Duke Nukem franchise when they’re not limited to finishing a game that’s a decade old (but I’d also take Borderlands 2, Gearbox!). There’s no details about the release date or price of the Parody Pack yet, but once Gearbox announces them, we’ll be sure to let you know.
