Asus Eee PC X101 With MeeGo Available for Preorder [Asus Retailers Now Accepting Orders for Cheap 10-Inch Netbook Running MeeGo Linux; Shipping in September]
Asus has announced plans to release inexpensive netbooks under the Eee PC X101 product line. Cost is brought down by the use of modest specs and MeeGo Linux. If this is your thing, you can now pre-order the Eee PC X101, which will start shipping in September.

With tough competition from tablet computers, netbooks do need a way to be marketable, and one way is through the price. The Asus Eee PC X101 was earlier introduced as among the cheapest 10-inch netbook in the market, priced at sub-$200 levels. While modest in specs, the aim with the X101 is to bring back the netbook to its roots — affordable, simple and easy-to-use devices.
The Asus EeePC X101 comes with a 10.1 inch screen, and is powered by a 1.33 GHz Intel Atom N435 low-power processor. The netbook comes with 1 GB of RAM and nominally an 8 GB solid state drive. You get 2 to 3 hours of battery from the 3-cell Li-Ion pack. Now these specs are really modest, but the ideal here is to keep the price low. Some markets get the option for a Windows 7 variant, larger disc-based hard drive and a 6-cell battery, which will drive up the price a bit. But you get MeeGo with this low-priced variant, which is understandable given that Linux performs better in machines with low specs like this.
Retailers are already taking pre-orders for the EeePC X101, and prices are within the targeted $200 level.
