Android Market Upgrade Rolling Out Now

Google Releases 3.0.27 Upgrade to Market, With New Interface Design, Also With Book & Movie Rentals

We earlier reported that Google was updating Android Market to support more content downloads and a new interface. The update is now rolling out to devices.

Google’s latest 3.0.27 update to Market involves a big change in the layout of Market, notably with additional content, including rentals of movies and e-books.

Most notable in this Market update is the change in interface, which is more akin to Market in Honeycomb, and is likely to feature in Ice Cream Sandwich as well. The availability of movies and ebooks necessitates a way to preview the material, which also comes in helpful when checking out regular apps. Screenshots now appear above the app description. Likewise, if the application has a promotional video, thumbnails are available for easy reference.

The update is supposed to be rolling out over-the-air already, but if your handset has not yet automatically updated Market, you can check out the source link for the .APK installer. The update is compatible with Android 2.2 FroYo up.
