Samsung Android Devices Trump Apple iPhones & Nokia Smartphones in Sales
A survey conducted this June determined Apple iPhone 4′s status as king of the smartphones for the month in the United States. But according to a study carried out by Boston-based Strategy Analytics, Samsung might have actually sold more phones globally than both Apple and Nokia this second quarter of 2011.

The study says Samsung’s estimated global smartphone sales count for Q2 2011 is 21 million units. In comparison, Apple sold an incredibly hefty (but still insufficient) number of 20.3 million iPhones, while Nokia sold 16.7 million smartphones. Samsung’s secret to success is none other than the Google Android OS.

The release of Galaxy S II in particular, helped propel Samsung from number 4 in smartphone sales ranking during the first quarter right to the top of the list during the second quarter. You might recall that the Galaxy S II is one of the Samsung devices along with the Galaxy S and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 for which Apple has filed copyright infringement claims.
