Nokia N9 to Get an August 19 Release
We earlier reported that Nokia’s upcoming MeeGo smartphone is underway and that Swedish users will get first dibs at the phone. Now it seems Nokia might release the N9 to the UK market first.

Nokia is reportedly getting a UK launch by August 19, according to websites based in Russia and Khazakstan. Nokia has not confirmed this, though, and so we might want to take the news with a grain of salt. While Nokia is also working on releasing Windows Phone 7 handsets within the year, die-hard fans are likely to be more interested in what MeeGo will bring.
The Nokia N9 comes with a 3.9-inch OLED screen, and will highlight multi-tasking features with the use of screen gestures and swipes. The smartphone will come wtih an 8-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, a front-facing VGA camera, and up to 64 GB in internal memory. A developer edition of the smartphone, the N950, is also a MeeGo smartphone, but intended for developers.
But even when Nokia promises support for MeeGo for years after initial release, will the platform gain any traction now that iOS and Android are the dominant mobile platforms? Will Nokia still focus on development and support for MeeGo now that they’ve committed themselves to Windows Phone?
