Is Google+ Planning To Add Gaming To Its Social Network?

Hints Have Begun To Emerge That Google's Social Network, Google+, May Include Games

I think most of us have heard of Farmville at some point. And it’s not out of line to suggest that we know what Mafia Wars is. And there are more than a few other such games on Facebook, which in turn has caused plenty of controversy in their own right on some occasions. But with the rise of Google+ as a social network, it’s really not too big a surprise to hear stirrings about them adding games of their own.

There’s a growing body of evidence, from bits of code to a possible logo to even job listings, pointing to the possibility that Google+ may well add a gaming component to its ranks. The newest such tidbit was found in a help page in Google+’s settings menu discussing “updates shared from games”. Some, meanwhile, have gone looking for said help page but were unable to find it, leading some to wonder if it has since been pulled.

This by itself would mean little if it weren’t for the stack of hints that preceded it. And of course, if Google applies its in-app purchasing program at the rate we’d heard previously, of just five percent, that would likely spur a whole lot of developers to get to work offering product for a social network that’s experiencing growth on a rapid scale. It will also serve the purpose of getting those who weren’t previously interested due to a lack of games to move over, though it might cause some problems with those who wanted Google+ to stay gameless. Either way, it seems like Facebook might well have a fight on its hands after all.

Meanwhile, what do you guys think? Do you like the thought of games on Google+? Would you leave Facebook for it, or simply develop a profile for each site? Either way, we want to hear from you, so hit the comments section and tell us what you think about Google+ getting into the gaming arena!
