Microsoft-Sanctioned ChevronWP7 Jailbreak for Windows Phone 7 Price Announced

Jailbreaking Windows Phone 7 Will Be More Affordable With ChevronWP7's Upcoming Tool; No Need to Pay $99

Jailbreaking your Windows Phone smartphone used to require a $99 fee for a developer license. Independent developers who built the ChevronWP7 jailbreaking/homebrew tools have partnered with Microsoft to enable users to unlock their phones for an affordable fee, and have already announced their price.

We earlier featured how the ChevronWP7 team is partnering with Microsoft for an official tool for jailbreaking Windows Phone 7. Microsoft is officially sanctioning this development, in exchange for the team’s helping the company identify and patch the original source of the jailbreak exploit. In recent news, the team has already announced the price for jailbreaking WP7.

For $9, you can officially unlock your Windows Phone. No need to pay the $99 developer fee, but rather, the 9 bucks will get you the ability to developer-unlock your WP7 smartphone.

However, this will be a bit limited, since the ChevronWP7 says they will not condone piracy. Hence, the developer unlock will lack access to unsupported APIs, and users will be unable to access the Windows Phone registry. Sounds like a good price if all you need is to install homebrew and third-party apps otherwise not available on the official Windows Marketplace.
