Motorola Atrix 4G Gingerbread Update Coming Soon?

Motorola Starts Android 2.3.4 Beta Tests for the Atrix 4G; Gingerbread Release Date Must Be Getting Close

The Motorola Atrix 4G has been announced back at CES 2011 (where we took it for a spin for you) and it immediately impressed us with its WebTop capabilities. Then Motorola and AT&T launched it, but, unfortunately for the end-user, and just like the Xoom, the Atrix 4G + Laptop Dock combination was too expensive. The Atrix 4G never became a best-seller smartphone, as we would have expected it, although the device is definitely a great Android handset.

In case you own one then you’ll certainly be thrilled to hear that Motorola and AT&T are getting ready to update the Atrix to Android 2.3.X (2.3.3 or 2.3.4) Gingerbread in the very near future. As we speak, Motorola and AT&T are looking for 1,000 beta testers for this early Gingerbread build, and some of you may have already received an invitation for this particular beta program.

Another reason to be happy to hear Motorola is going to launch an important update for the Atrix 4G is the fact that Moto is supposed to also unlock the bootloader of the Atrix soon, and the company could decide to do everything in one update: new Gingerbread build + unlocked bootloader.

But while the invite for this private Gingerbread update is out in the wild already (check out the screenshot above), we have no idea when Motorola and AT&T will actually launch the new Android version for the Atrix.

In case you’re considering buying an Atrix 4G right now, then you may be better off waiting a few more weeks before getting it, as not only could AT&T launch Android 2.3.X for the Atrix 4G by then, but Verizon could release the Droid Bionic, an LTE device that’s also supposed to sport WebTop features. And you may want to purchase a brand new Droid Bionic instead of the “old” Atrix 4G even if that means switching carriers.

      Lol,

“And you may want to purchase a brand new Droid Bionic instead of the “old” Atrix 4G even if that means switching carriers.”

The rate at which mobile handsets go out of style is getting pretty ridiculous.

What douche bag leaked this email or shared it?! It’s people like you that are going to keep everyone from public beta tests. Seriously, what part of “Keep this message private…” don’t you understand?!

Ikr! They have the same specs other then the camera. The screen is bigger on the Bionic but they both are qhd making the Atrix the best pic quality of any phone other than the Iphone due to the 4 inch screen. Before you or anyone opens says anything the Samsung screens have better color, but when it comes to texting and web searching the Atrix wins! No carrier has true 4g and from what I heard it kills your battery any way. Did you know tha Atrix has the biggest battery too?
