Driver San Francisco To Utilize Online Pass?
Regardless of how you, the consumer, feel about publishers locking their games with online pass, the realization that they can squeeze even more money out of a single copy of a game has resulted in what may as well be called the industry’s very own gold rush. Everyone’s hopping on that train to riches, and even though you’d think that this would satisfy publishers, everyone’s still complaining about how used game sales are hurting the industry.

With all of this madness over online pass, it comes as no surprise whatsoever to learn that Ubisoft might be looking to implement a system of their own. Dubbed the ‘UPlay Passport’ (please, just call it online pass), Ubisoft is rumored to be implementing this system with the release of Driver San Francisco, which is due out on August 30th.
After that, it’s UPlay Passports from there on out, which is free to those who purchase a new copy of the game, but a required purchase for those who want to buy the game used and have their multiplayer too. The sources of this rumor couldn’t provide a price, but it’ll almost certainly run you $10 each time, just like all of the other online passes floating around out there.
Keep in mind that this is just a rumor, so we won’t know for sure if this UPlay Passport actually exists until Ubisoft officially confirms it. Out of all of the rumors I’ve written about while I’ve been here at TFTS, this one definitely has the highest likelihood of being true, and it won’t surprise me at all when Ubisoft starts requiring an online pass with their games.
