3D Movies On The Way For Nintendo 3DS

On The Same Day Netflix Becomes Available On 3DS, Nintendo Reveals That 3DS Owners Will Soon Have Access To A 'Select' Number Of 3D Movies

The Netflix app for Nintendo 3DS was released with today’s eShop update, and I wouldn’t be surprised if at least a handful of people were disappointed to discover that, no, you can’t watch Netflix movies and shows in 3D, even though you’re watching them on a 3DS. Don’t fret though, because Nintendo says that a select number of 3D movies are heading your way soon.

The press release that revealed this little tidbit of information was mostly about Netflix and how great the 3DS is now that Netflix is on it, and the mention of 3D movies doesn’t pop up until near the end. “Users will soon have access to an additional library of select movies that can be viewed in 3D without the need for special glasses,” the press release says, failing to elaborate on when they’ll be available or what platform they’ll be available on.

3D movie trailers are offered through the eShop, but this entire press release is about how awesome Netflix is. So, we might be seeing a special 3DS section pop up in the Netflix browser soon, or Nintendo may begin offering video of their own through the eShop. Because of the vague language in the press release, it’s really up in the air, but either way let’s hope that the 3D content that’s released is a little more compelling than Nintendo’s recent eShop additions, like Baseball and Tennis.

Like I said above, there’s no word on release dates, platforms or what movies will actually be available yet, but once Nintendo decides to divulge that information, we’ll be there to soak it up. That’s right, TFTS is your spongy source for 3DS information, so keep it tuned here.
