Twitter For Android Gets An Update, Brings Push Notifications, Multiple Account Support & More

Those using the official Twitter app on Android may want to grab their device and fire up the Android Market. Yup, an update has come available and along with the new version number comes a few welcomed new features as well as the almost standard mention of “other improvements and bug fixes.”

And while we sometimes poke fun at the update with bug fixes, we really shouldn’t as they are often the most welcomed part of an update. That being said, that is not the case for this update. But first, this latest update is currently available in the Android Market and comes as version 2.1.0 and a 1.36MB download. Furthermore, Android 2.1 or higher is still a requirement for the app. Also worth noting for those who rely on automatic updates, this update comes as a manual update.

Moving past the boring details and into the new features. According to the details we have seen, the update includes push notifications, support for multiple accounts and an updated home screen widget.

Push Notifications:

Push notifications let you instantly receive Twitter updates – no matter what you’re doing on your phone. In your account settings, select “automatic refresh” and choose to receive updates for Direct Messages, @Mentions (from the people you follow or anyone), and Tweets.

Multiple Accounts:

You can also now use multiple accounts on Twitter for Android without ever logging out. It’s easy to switch between accounts to discover and share what’s happening in the world.

All said and done, a rather nice update, especially for those who have not been able to check out the app due to the lack of support for multiple Twitter accounts.
