Nintendo 3DS Gets The Netflix Update Tomorrow

Netflix Coming With Tomorrow's 3DS eShop Update, But With Yesterday's Netflix Price Hike, Is Anyone Still Interested?

Nintendo’s got another eShop update coming tomorrow, and while the updates thus far have been a little less than thrilling (Tennis on 3DS? Really?), tomorrow’s includes something fans have been waiting for since the handheld’s release: Netflix. Yep, tomorrow you’ll be able to download the free Netflix app to your 3DS, provided you have a Netflix subscription and unlimited streaming is part of it.

There’s only one tiny problem: not too many people are happy with Netflix at the moment. Yesterday, Netflix raised the monthly price on their 1 DVD out at a time plus instant streaming plan, which is almost certainly their most popular plan, to $15.99. This has left quite a few people with a bitter taste in their mouth, and has likely lead to a fair few account cancellations.

So will people still care when Netflix his the 3DS tomorrow? Probably, considering that Netflix’s streaming-only plan remains unchanged in price (for the moment). A lot of people may have woken up pissed at Netflix today, but this is one of the 3DS’s most anticipated features, so it’ll probably get a warm welcome tomorrow nonetheless.

For those of you who don’t have a Netflix subscription, your Nintendo offerings for tomorrow are slim. Extreme Hangman 2 will be released for DSiWare and the eShop tomorrow, and let me tell you, the anticipation on this end is almost palpable. One of the more intriguing releases this week is Afterzoom, a new AR game for DSi and 3DS that allows you to discover lifeforms hidden in your surroundings using the cameras on your DSi or 3DS.

Continuing with this apparent obsession with releasing obscure 80s sports games that no one cares about anymore, Nintendo’s also popping 1983′s Baseball up on the eShop tomorrow. The gem in this update (and keep in mind, that isn’t saying too much) is the Game & Watch Gallery, which comes packed with four different mini-games: Fire, Manhole, Octopus, and Oil Panic. See? I told you offerings were slim this week.

So, are you still looking forward to Netflix on your 3DS, or is this new Netflix app a no-go for you? Did you cancel your subscription after Netflix announced their price hike, or are you still one of the Netflix faithful? Sound off in the comments section below!

When are Turbo Grafx and Game Gear games coming out for the 3DS? I might just lose interest and sell my 3DS before they release any good games for it.
