Motorola PHOTON 4G Release Date & Price Announced By Sprint
Do you remember the Motorola PHOTON 4G? That was the widescreen Android phone from Sprint that was first rumored, then confirmed. Now, we’ve been granted a price and release date for the phone. Sprint will be asking the reasonable $200 for the device on a two-year contract, with the release date set at July 31st. Sprint Premier customers can pick it up days earlier on July 28th!

Sprint announced this news today via press release. Sprint Premier is their customer appreciation program for long-time Sprint customers. Being in that program has a number of advantages, one of them being getting top phones sooner than the general masses of customers.
Let’s recap the Photon 4G and its specs:
- 4.3-inch qHD screen
- Android 2.3
- 1Ghz dual-core Tegra 2 processor
- 1GB RAM
- 16GB memory
- 8MP camera
- 1.3MP (VGA) front-facing camera
Some folks have been calling this phone the “Atrix for Sprint”, referring to the Motorola Atrix 4G on AT&T’s network. That’s a far comparison, and the phones even share the same curved look, although it’s important to note that the Atrix has the webtop docking technology that allows you to drop it into a laptop shell while the Photon 4G won’t have such technology.
Fared Adib, Sprint’s VP of Product Development said in the press statement:
“Sprint is thrilled to build on the strength of our relationship with Motorola by bringing customers Motorola’s first Sprint 4G device with a dual-core processor.”
Looks like a quality 4G Android phone to us. It’ll be the second 4G dual-core device on Sprint’s network. The first was the EVO 3D, so if you don’t want the gimmick of the 3D phone, then the Photon 4G might be the phone for you!
