Samsung NC215 Hits Preorder On Amazon
We’ve been following the world tour of Samsung’s solar powered netbook, the NC215, for some time now. And it’s about to make a stop stateside with an appearance in the preorder menu out at Amazon.

The last time we’d heard about the Samsung NC215, it was set to make an appearance in the United States’ markets by July 3rd. Being as it’s currently July 12th, it’s safe to say we weren’t celebrating our independence with a new netbook that ran on solar power. But only a little overdue, you’ll now be able to sign up for a preorder, and even at a firm price.
Just to give you a quick rundown at what you’ll be getting with the Samsung NC215, it packs a 1.6 GHz dual-core Atom N570 processor, backed up further by 250 gigs of hard drive, a gig of RAM, and some extra amenities like Samsung’s Fast Start system (which does pretty much what it says on the box), wi-fi, Bluetooth, and the Sleep and Charge system, which lets you use your laptop to charge USB devices through the solar panel, even while the laptop itself is in sleep mode.
At last report, this was set to pack a surprisingly healthy battery life of 14.5 hours, though that would depend heavily on where you were and how much cloud cover you were getting at the time. The good news here, though, is that there’s now a firm price of the preorder on this one. If you want to get your hands on one of these, you’ll have to shell out $399, which isn’t really too bad as far as netbooks go. In fact, the whole thing is actually looking pretty nice, with some decent specs backed up by phenomenal (for a netbook) battery life.
So what do you guys think here? Anyone looking forward to snagging their own solar powered netbook? Or does this look like too much cash for too little return? Either way, we look forward to hearing from you, so head down to the comments section and tell us what you think!

They may have pulled it since; the last report I saw said it was. Odd that you don’t see it.
