Acer AC700 Chromebook Now Shipping

It seems we have a case of Amazon being slightly more accurate as compared to the manufacturer. The Acer AC700 Chromebook is now available for sale — and shipping. And as many following along will realize, that means Acer missed the promised June 15th and ‘before the end of June’ timeframes that they were previously shooting for.

Regardless though, the Wi-Fi only model of the AC700 Chromebook notebook is now finally shipping. The AC700 comes priced as we had expected at $349 along with free Super Saver shipping from Amazon.

And just to clarify, the model that is available at this time is the Wi-Fi only version. So far we have nothing new to add in terms of when the 3G model will begin shipping, however given Amazon seems to have been accurate on when this version would ship, we are going to take their last word — in other words, we are expecting the 3G AC700 to begin shipping in mid-August.

In terms of the model, the Acer AC700 is sporting an 11.6 inch (1366 x 768) display, dual-core Intel Atom N570 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB SSD storage, Intel Graphics media accelerator 3150, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, 1.3 megapixel webcam, built-in speakers, two USB 2.0 ports, one HDMI port, multi-touch trackpad and a full-sized keyboard. In addition, the Acer Chromebook weighs in at 3.2 pounds and ships with a battery that should be able to provide put to 6 hours of run time.

That all being said, the main difference between this model and the 3G model that will be coming is the 3G. The cellular connectivity is provided by Verizon Wireless and users will get 100MB of data (per month) for free. And lastly, the 3G equipped Acer AC700 is priced at $429. All said and done, while not a perfect machine, it should be an option to consider for those who find themselves fans of Chrome and able to live in the cloud.
