iPhone 4 vs Samsung Droid Charge vs HTC Sensation vs HTC EVO 3D: Most Popular Smartphones in June
June 2011 did not bring us the next-gen iPhone, as some people hoped until the very end. The iPhone 4S/5 is coming at some point this fall, most likely in September, and in the mean time it appears the iPhone 4 is still a strong presence in the U.S. smartphone business.

Canaccord Genuity checked with carrier retail stores across the USA to see what were the most popular smartphones for the month of June and the iPhone 4 was atop of the polls for two carriers.
The iPhone 4 is the most popular handset with AT&T customers and has been the most popular for six months in a row. In June it was followed by the iPhone 3GS, holding the second spot for the third month in a row and by the Samsung Infuse 4G, on third position for the second month in a row.
Moving on to Verizon we discover the iPhone 4 as the most popular handset found in Big Red stores, for the fifth straight month in a row, followed by the Samsung Droid Charge, which has been hanging to that second position for two months in a row. The HTC Thunderbolt is third, and it’s also a handset that has been present in the top three Verizon handsets for four months in a row.
Sprint’s number one smartphone is the newly launched HTC EVO 3D, and we’re definitely not surprised there. In second place we find the HTC EVO 4G, the handset that was the flagship Sprint handsets for five months in a row this year, and on third place we have the Samsung Epic 4G, apparently still a strong competitor.
Last but not least we have T-Mobile’s top three smartphones, HTC Sensation, Samsung Vibrant 4G and HTC’s myTouch 4G. No surprises here either. From what we see here it’s pretty clear that the main battle in the U.S. smartphone business is being fought between Apple’s iPhone 4 and the plethora of Android smartphones that are available from every major and minor carrier. I guess RIM, Microsoft, Nokia and HP can’t be happy to see such analysis, can they?
The question is, what smartphone have you recently purchased? The iPhone 4, the Samsung Droid Charge, the HTC EVO 3D or the HTC Sensation?
