iPhone 4S/5 To Be Thinner & Lighter
Recently it was reported by the blogging circles that Apple had placed their order for 15 million units of the next iPhone from manufacturer Pegatron. But, the financial paper of record, the Wall Street Journal, has learned a bit more about the upcoming iPhone. They’re reporting – gasp – that it will be lighter and thinner than the iPhone 4.

Every revision of Apple products seems to be lighter and thinner than the one before it, and Apple (and Steve Jobs) loves to make sure you know it. So, this news isn’t exactly groundbreaking. Regardless, the Wall Street Journal, citing “suppliers of components”, says that the new iPhone will be thinner and lighter, and will have an 8-megapixel camera.
If true, this does spread some light on what the iPhone 4S/5 will be like. Because it is coming out in September and seems like it might be more like a mid-cycle refresh than an all-new iPhone, some had wondered how different from the iPhone 4 it will actually be. I’ve seen some folks suggest that it will be just an iPhone 4 with 4G connectivity. But, the news that it will be lighter and thinner means that it could be substantially different from the iPhone 4.
It’s also being reported that Apple hopes to sell 25 million units of the new iPhone before the end of the year. That means that if the rumor that their initial order of 15 million was true, they’re hoping to move a lot of phones between the launch window of the device and by December 31st. Which they probably can, it is Apple, after all.
