Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D Doesn't Let You Erase Saves, Some Stores Not To Buyback Used Games
If you’ve picked up Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D for the Nintendo 3DS, you already may be aware of an extremely strange save ‘feature’. You can’t reset your save game data on the SD card, at all, meaning that whatever save game state is on the game is on there forever. In other words, you can’t wipe the saved game at all. This puts an interesting spin on used games, since each copy of the game will have somebody else’s game on there forever.

I believe some have called for Capcom to patch the strange saving implementation, but thus far they have made no promises. This puts retailers in a strange spot. Do you buyback and sell a used game that has somebody’s save game permanently stuck at the end of the game? GameStop in the United States did stop buying and selling the game used for a while, but according to a comment they issued to IGN, they’ve resumed buying and selling used games by now.
It’s being reported that EB Games Australia has stopped selling the game at all – even new copies, while British store HMV has just resigned themselves to stop buying back and selling used copies. As for the strange save implement itself, some have wondered why the heck it’s like that. Japanese games have always been kind of cumbersome for saving (remember the first Dead Rising), but this almost seems like a last minute decision to fend off used game sales.
Regardless, just beware if you’re thinking about buying a used copy of Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D. If you want too, the review scores haven’t exactly been the greatest.
