Sprint Rumored To Be Rolling Out Gingerbread For The 7″ Galaxy Tab Next Week [Sprint Branded HTC EVO View Tablet Aside, The Original Galaxy Tab May Also Soon Be Running Android 2.3]

We have heard some rumblings about the original 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab getting an update to Android 2.3, however up until now they always came with some rather general timeframes. Of course, the most likely reason behind that is the Galaxy Tab was released with a wide variety of carriers and they each need to work things out on their own.

That said, Samsung did confirm the update was coming back in mid-May so we know that to be accurate as opposed to rumor. However as of today we do have a bit of rumor to sprinkle on top. The latest involves the Sprint branded Galaxy Tab and a possible release date for the Gingerbread update.

That said, while we are waiting on the official nod from Sprint, here is what we think will be happening. The Android 2.3 Gingerbread update will begin rolling out on July 5th and run over a 4 day period. According to the leaked details;

“Update is available via Google OTA. Customers will become eligible for the upgrade across a 4-day period based on their status with the Google servers.”

Otherwise, in addition to Gingerbread, the update will also include a Bluetooth update. In terms of the update itself, once downloaded and installed it will bring the baseband version to S:P100.08 S.EF17 and the build number to SPH-P100.EF17.

With that, we understand quite a few Sprint Galaxy Tab users will be anxious to see this update come available and that being said, beginning on July 5th you can fire up your devices and navigate to Menu -> Settings -> About My Galaxy Tab -> Systems Updates -> Update Android to begin checking. But remember, this is a 4-day roll-out so you may or may not see it on the 5th. And on top of that, this has yet to be confirmed by Sprint.
