Samsung & Korea’s LG Telecom Introduce SIP & Wireless Phone via Galaxy Player [LG U+ Wireless "Phone" Works Anywhere With Wi-Fi Connectivity]
Android devices are invading the home, and while they’re at it, why not have a wireless phone that runs Android? LG U+’s offering is a SIP-based VoIP phone that runs on a Samsung Galaxy Player.

This is not the first time we’ve seen a home wireless telephone system that runs Android, as we previously featured the Archos 3s Smart Home Phone. This time around, South Korea’s LG Telecom (LG U+) uses a stock device from Samsung to act as the wireless telephone receiver.
The system uses a Samsung Galaxy Player as a VoIP client running a dedicated SIP software. Aside from the Internet-based telephony service, the system supports SMS messaging. LG U+ says the wireless phone capabilities will work with any Wi-Fi network with Internet access. Knowing how fast and well-connected South Korea’s broadband infrastructure is, you can essentially use your home wireless phone anywhere with Internet connectivity, much like other wireless SIP clients.
Of course, the device can be used as any Android smartphone, only wtihout the mobile data and cellular capabilities. Users might also be able to use other Android devices, if the SIP application can be installed on other tablets, media players or smartphones.
Will the LG U+ VoIP system popularize Android media players as home telephones, or do you still prefer to use your old-school, regular wired-line telephone for making calls?
