Minecraft Beta 1.7 Has Gone Live, Pistons Are Now At Your Disposal

Minecraft Beta 1.7 Gives Us Pistons To Keep Us Occupied Until The Adventure Update Arrives

Minecraft beta 1.7 has been officially released, and though it may not be the adventure update like we were originally expecting, 1.7 is bringing pistons with it, an addition that’s definitely going to change the way Minecraft is played. If you haven’t already closed your browser so you can boot up Minecraft, head past the break to check out a new trailer that showcases some of the more traditional uses of pistons.

Of course, what’s shown in the trailer is really only the tip of the iceberg, and it’s only a matter of time before videos of crazy contraptions created with pistons start hitting YouTube. Other than pistons, there isn’t much else to speak of with update 1.7, but it means we’re a little bit closer to update 1.8, which has since become the adventure update.

Notch has already talked about some of the things to come with the adventure update, including a new lighting engine, at least one new mob, new combat mechanics, and NPC villages. 1.8 is set to be a monumental update for Minecraft, and 1.7 serves to whet our appetites until then.

While we’re waiting for 1.8, we’ve got pistons to keep us occupied, and I’m excited to see what the Minecraft community comes up with. Anyone have any specific plans for pistons? Watch the trailer below to get some ideas, then head to the comments section and tell us what you’re going to build!
