HP TouchPad Teardown Reveals Easy to Manipulate Chassis

HP Lets You Easily open the TouchPad Tablet for Upgrades & Mods

A few days before HP’s planned launch of the TouchPad tablet, Tech Republic has already laid their hands on a pre-release model, and has done a teardown, which reveals the TouchPad’s hardware features.

Teardowns are meant to determine the exact components and peripherals installed on our devices. The upcoming HP TouchPad recently underwent the teardown treatment, which reveals a few items of note:

  • The HP TouchPad is held together with regular Phillips screws. No unibody here, and no difficult-to-remove clips and screws. This makes it easier to do mods, upgrades and repairs on the TouchPad, in case you’re a DIY enthusiast.
  • The LCD screen and digitizer are separate, which means these can be replaced independently of each other.
  • The battery can be accessed from within the TouchPad. It’s a bit difficult to access, though, but you can have the battery removed and replaced if necessary.

Of course, opening your TouchPad will void the warranty. But if you do decide to buy a TouchPad, and you find the need to have it repaired or upgraded, you know it won’t be too difficult.
