Activision Unveils Call Of Duty Fan Event
There’s already a bunch of developers and games that have their own conventions, so it only seems natural that we’d get a Call of Duty convention eventually. That’s just what Call of Duty XP is, and from the way Activision describes it on their site, it sounds like the place to be if you’re a Call of Duty fan.

Call of Duty XP will run September 2nd and 3rd in the Los Angeles area. Where that area in Los Angeles actually is has yet to be revealed, with Activision’s Eric Hirshberg telling Joystiq that the convention is taking place at a “secure 12-acre compound in the urban confines of Los Angeles.”
Once at Call of Duty XP, fans will be able to witness the reveal of Modern Warfare 3′s multiplayer and compete in a Call of Duty: Black Ops tournament for their share of $1 million in cash and prizes. Activision will also be showcasing Call of Duty Elite, which so far has remained somewhat of a mystery.
But these previews and competitions are run-of-the-mill for gaming conventions like this. So what sets Call of Duty XP apart from the others and makes it worth the $150 ticket price? “We are constructing a full-scale replica of one of our multiplayer maps as a paintball stadium for fans,” Hirshberg said. The multiplayer map Hirshberg’s referring to is Modern Warfare 2′s Scrapyard, and he also says that Activision has made a full sized replica of The Pit as well. Tired out after running The Pit and getting in on some real life multiplayer matches in Scrapyard? Head over to the fully-realized Burger Town and refuel with some burgers and fries.
So there’s all of that. There’s also the fact that Activision is donating the proceeds to the Call of Duty Endowment, which is a non-profit organization that helps returning veterans find employment. I have to say, even though I’m not what you can call a Call of Duty fan, Call of Duty XP sounds like it’s going to be great time.
If you want to go though, you’ll have to be fast once tickets go on sale. Only around 6,000 will be available for the event, and considering that Call of Duty is one of the biggest franchises in gaming history, they’ll probably sell out in the blink of an eye. They aren’t on sale at the moment, but if Call of Duty XP sounds like an even you want to go to, head over to callofduty.com/xp, sign up, and then wait for further details on how you can get a ticket to this event.
I’m impressed with Activision. This seems like an awesome way to give back to the fans who have made Call of Duty what it is. How about you? Does Call of Duty XP sound like something you’re interested in? Let us know in the comments section below.
