OS X Lion Release Date Hits

A Slightly Shifted Release Date Has Been Reported For The New Mac Operating System, And It's Bringing Friends

Cheery news for Mac buffs out there awaiting their chance to lay hands on the newest operating system, OS X Lion: a new release date has been dropped, and it’s just a bit later than earlier announced. Why the slight delay? A few reasons, actually; the biggest one is that OS X Lion will be bringing friends with it.

The new date is now, reportedly, July 19th, as reported by the ever-popular “sources connected to Apple”, which will coincide nicely with a planned conference call in which Apple will drop the dime on its third quarter financial numbers. But it’s not just going to be a big day for them to show off numbers and start selling their latest operating system, Mac OS X Lion, either: word is that that will be the same day that the new MacBook Airs arrive, putting still more punch into an already jam-packed day.

Now, naturally, these reports were quickly hedged by key phrases about the nature of the universe as a whole, like nothing was set in stone and anything could change at any time, but in all honesty, it makes sense for this to go through as slated. Not only does it allow Apple to show off its numbers, but in the off chance that they prove disappointing in some way, they can promptly make up for it by saying, oh, yeah, we dropped two new products today so look for a healthy spike in the near future. And if Apple’s numbers don’t actually disappoint, as they’re not likely to (you seen their stock price lately?) , they’ll be able to put the metaphorical cherry on top by saying their fourth quarter numbers are looking to lead off with a bang with two new products launching.

So if you’re waiting eagerly to snag a new MacBook Air and OS X Lion, you’ll have your chance, and pretty soon, too.

But are you one of those folks looking to get one of these? Do you think Apple will hit this new release date target? Head on down to the comments section and let us know what you think about Apple’s new releases!

Honestly, I think it’s pretty much ready to go into Gold Master status already. I’ve been using the developers preview (version 4) and it only has a handful of bugs it needs worked out. So far, I’ve been using it as my primary operating system and I haven’t had any issues. The “back” gesture in Safari crashes every now again and that’s the only bug I’ve ran across. All in all, they’re just waiting to release the software with some new hardware.

    2. Thanks for your feedback, Kevin – good to hear from someone who’s clued up on this.

    3. And they likely want to be sure it’s solid. Maybe some more quality testing and whatnot. But you’re mostly right, I’m sure–it’s all about the hardware release timing.

Definitely worth a wait that long , even though sooner the better !!

    5. Very, very true, Umesh.

I read somewhere else a date of 15/07/2011 but I think it’s too late fro that date now? It’s already 13/07/2011 and no announcement yet…
