Google Releases Google+ App For Android, Promises Native iOS App Will Be Coming Soon

Google+ Comes To Android, Will Be Arriving For iOS & Also Received Its Very Own Chrome Extension

We saw Google make the announcement yesterday, Google+ is now an official product offering. And at the risk of putting myself in a Google fanboy group, the service looks like it may have some promise. Of course, that comes only as a result of my reading everything that I could.

That being said, it looks like there are quite a few apps and ways to use the service. Then again, with as much hype as Google+ seems to be stirring up, that may have been more expected. Anyway, so far we have seen Google launch a dedicated Google+ app for Android as well as optimize the plus.google.com website for iOS users.

Thankfully though, it looks like iOS users will not be left using the optimized website for all that long because there was mention found which states that a “native app for iPhone (iOS 4+)” will be “coming soon.” Granted, we have no idea as to what their definition of soon really is, but at least the promise was made.

Speaking in terms of the Android app, this one is currently available in the Android Market and will run on devices sporting Android 2.1 or later. The Google+ Android app comes as a 2.7M download and is sitting at version 1.0.

And then we have the Chrome Extension, this one seems like it would be beneficial for those living in the browser. Well, in the Chrome browser anyway. The extension is currently available for installation and means users will be presented with a dialog box asking to share on either Facebook or Twitter when they give something a +1. Bottom line, use the Chrome extension, +1 something and you will be presented with a “send to” style dialog.

With all that, Google+ is still an invitation only service and at present it seems like more users are left waiting then actually using. But hey, at least you can download the Android app, install the Chrome extension and bookmark the iOS webapp in preparation of when your invite arrives.
