Blizzard Removes Time Limit From World Of Warcraft Trials

World Of Warcraft Trials Now Last Until Level 20, Burning Crusade Content Added To WoW Trials As Well

Blizzard’s massively popular (and massively infamous) MMO World of Warcraft has gotten a new extended trial with the Rage of the Firelands update. Now, instead of being limited to a mere 14 days of game time, you can play until level 20 before you need to pay anything. Of course, you’ll probably hit level 20 within 14 days, which would effectively make this new trial shorter than the old one, but hey, details.

In addition to your expected vanilla WoW experience, players who participate in this new extended trial will also get to check out some content from WoW’s first expansion, The Burning Crusade. Trial members will be able to create Draenei or a Blood Elf, the two races added with the expansion, and the digital World of Warcraft Battle Chest has been discounted to $19.99 for when you decide that 20 levels just isn’t enough.

And really, 20 levels in World of Warcraft isn’t that much anymore. Cataclysm – the third WoW expansion that dropped at the end of last year – raised the level cap to 85, and with two expansions missing completely from the trial, you’re still missing a lot of the game if you just quit when your character hits 20.

Still, this is a good way for Blizzard to reignite interest in the nearly six-year-old game, especially with free-to-play MMOs showing up in the news a lot lately. This may be a sign of things to come as well – I wouldn’t be surprised if World of Warcraft went completely free-to-play when Blizzard’s new MMO Titan launches.

But what do you think? Are you going to give WoW a spin now that you can play until level 20 for free? Do you agree with me and think that WoW might go free-to-play once Titan launches, or am I way off the mark? Let me know in the comments section!

I think Blizzard will get more aggressive about attracting new subscribers to WOW but they will never make it free to play. It’s by far their largest revenue source, they couldn’t possibly give up all that $$. When Titan comes out they’ll just add that to the revenue stream along with WOW.

There is a great write-up on Titan over at [ed: link removed] for anyone interested.
