Amazon Launches AmazonFresh App For Windows Phone 7 [AmazonFresh Customers Sporting A Windows Phone 7 Can Now Place & Manage Orders With The Newly Released WP7 App]

While there are plenty of people who have probably never heard of AmazonFresh, and maybe an equal amount of people who are wishing the service was available in their neck of the woods — those with access to the service and sporting a Windows Phone device now have a dedicated app to better use the service.

Yup, Amazon has launched an AmazonFresh app on the Windows Phone platform. The app is available in the Marketplace and comes as a free download. That aside though, it seems to do the basics including shopping and placing new orders as well as checking out previous orders. Of course, there are also some other goodies that may make it easier to put your list together such as a favorite picks section, a featured section and a spotlight section.

And for those wondering about AmazonFresh, that is the grocery delivery service that Amazon launched a while back. Sadly for most of us though, the service is only available in the Seattle area and at present it is unclear as to when (if ever) it will expand beyond that. Needless to say, even if it does expand it will likely be in other larger areas, which really means that those who live in smaller towns have quite a bit less hope of Amazon Fresh coming available.

That said, another grocery chain, Publix, tried something similar in South Florida several years back with a service called Publix Direct. Needless to say, I used it from the time it launched, and until the time they finally stopped delivering. It seemed the service was expensive for Publix to run. But that aside, shopping for groceries online and having them delivered is a wonderful thing.

Moving on past my love of having groceries delivered to my house, some may be wondering about the choice of platforms for the mobile app. After all, Windows Phone does not have the largest market share. Well, as to that, Seattle is home to some 40,000 Microsoft employees so there is probably a fair amount of WP7 handsets in the area. And just in case, there is an iPhone optimized version of the Amazon Fresh website available, just in case you live in Seattle and are not sporting a WP7 device.
