Minecraft Beta 1.7 Is No Longer The Adventure Update
A few weeks ago, upon his return from E3, Minecraft creator Markus ‘Notch’ Persson announced that beta update 1.7 was going to be the adventure update, an update that makes exploration and combat more rewarding. Now it seems that we won’t be getting the Adventure Update with 1.7, as Notch has said there’s too much being added to release it anytime soon.

Instead, he says that update 1.7 will feature only pistons and a few bug fixes, while 1.8 will now be the adventure update. “Me and Jens have been independently working on stuff for the adventure update, and it’s been growing in scope as we’ve been working on it,” Persson wrote on his blog. “That means it will take quite some time to finish, but that it will hopefully change the game a lot to the better.” So, even though the adventure update has been pushed back a bit, at least we’re still getting pistons relatively soon, which has been a pretty anticipated feature within the Minecraft community.
Persson has been pretty quiet with the details on the adventure update, but today he gave of an idea of what we’re getting when it launches: “Already implemented are new complex terrain features, at least one new mob, some interesting new combat mechanics, a new lighting engine, and some experimental new gameplay ideas. To come is more interesting farming, bigger incentives to explore, and NPC villages.”
It definitely sounds like we’re in for a treat when beta 1.8 releases, and I don’t mind waiting a bit longer if it’s going to add a bunch of new stuff for the game – let’s just hope that the Minecraft addicts don’t start up with the DDoS attacks again now that Notch has delayed it.
