LG DM50D Offers Big 3D With Passive Glasses, Plays Nice With Your Computer

LG's New DM50D 3D Offers A Sizable Screen And A Lot Of Versatility

The line between computer monitors and televisions is getting a little, well, blurry these days. Blurry like watching a 3D image without your 3D glasses on, that kind of blurry. But the crew at LG wants to blur the line a little more with their DM50D 3D monitor.

The DM50D takes a variety of its cues from LG televisions, which often prove to be pretty impressive in their own rights, offering things like flicker-free technology, low crosstalk, fully double the brightness of normal 3D monitors, and compatibility with Cinema 3D products. You’ll even be able to use this like a normal television, as it packs a TV tuner, a USB port, and HDMI ports so you can hook it into game consoles or even home theater equipment like a Blu-ray player, as well as full surround sound.

And for those of you out there who, like me, wear glasses, you’ll find yourself very happy to know that the glasses come in clip-on to slide right over your standard frames. That’s right, no more having to wear two pairs of glasses just to watch a movie. They even suggest that this will cut down on dizziness and headaches, if you happen to get those (like I do) during 3D viewing.

Even better, for those of you concerned about lack of content (and there really aren’t that many 3D movies out there), you’ll be able to convert your 2D material to 3D. It even works automatically with games.

There’s no word yet on pricing, but LG says these will be hitting Europe this July, with follow-up launches coming to the rest of the planet in rapid fashion.

I’d personally have to reserve judgment on this one until I actually see it perform, but for right now, that sounds like it’s going to be pretty good stuff. It handles a lot of your basic 3D applications, and might just put a real punch in your computer work. And the fact that you can use it with all your home theater gear thanks to those HDMI ports certainly doesn’t hurt.

What do you guys think about the LG DM50D? Looking to buy, or is it too expensive at any price? No matter how you feel about it, we want to know, so head down to the comments section and fill us in!
