Facebook Confirms That iPhone & PS3 Jailbreak Hacker GeoHot Works for The Social Network [George Hotz Is a Facebook Employee; iPad 2 Jailbreak Not Interesting to Him Anymore]
Yesterday the Internet was taken by surprise by George Hotz (aka famous iPhone and PS3 jailbreak hacker) and his newly created Facebook profile that suggested basically that he’s now working for the huge social giant. We were unable to tell you whether we were looking at the real Facebook profile of GeoHot and whether his employment with the company is real, but it looks like the social network has confirmed it all today.

Apparently Mark Zuckerberg and Co. have hired GeoHot since May 9, right after he ended his legal predicament with Sony. But Facebook never acknowledged the move until now, and we’re yet to find out more details about his job description. Facebook isn’t saying anything about the role GeoHot has with the company and we’re going to still speculate it has to do something with the mobile environment that Facebook wants to conquer.
After all, considering the extensive work he did when it comes to jailbreaking the iPhone, ever since the original model came out, and his thorough understanding of Apple’s iOS ecosystem, it’s not rocket science to assume he will be working on mobile-related issues at Facebook.
What seems also to be pretty clear is that GeoHot will not be developing any iOS jailbreak tools soon, so don’t expect an iPad 2 jailbreak from him anytime soon. Just recently we told you how Chronic Dev Team’s p0sixninja challenged George Hotz to find an iPad 2 exploit and now we hear from the same p0sixninja that GeoHot refused due to his current work with Facebook.
It’ll be interesting to see what comes out of this new kind of “hacking” GeoHot has been hired to provide for Facebook, although I’d be surprised if we’ll find out any details regarding his actual work for some time to come.
