Nokia N950 Teardown Reveals MeeGo Smartphone’s Innards [Nokia N950 Teardown Confirms Higher-Resolution Camera But Lower Battery Capacity; Did You Know You Could Get an N950 for Free?]

The Nokia N950 just got a teardown treatment, revealing the MeeGo smartphone’s innards to be a bit similar to, and yet different from, its commercial-release cousin.

Product teardowns often reveal not only what’s exactly inside a device, but what other similar devices might have or lack. The latest teardown on the Nokia N950 confirms our earlier-posted information that the N950 has a lower-capacity battery. However, you might be surprised that the N950 actually has a better camera lens and sensor than the Nokia N9, with a 12-megapixel sensor and Carl Zeiss lens. This means the N950 actually lowers the capture resolution by 4MP.

If you’re interested in acquiring a free N950, you can actually apply with Nokia either as a commercial or community developer for MeeGo. Nokia has a few requirements, though, and you will need to be an active developer in the field, and you will need to actually come up with MeeGo apps in order to be qualified. Apps are meant for the Nokia N9, though, as the 950 will simply be the development platform that app builders will work on. But who knows – there might be enough demand for a Meego smartphone with QWERTY keypad, and Nokia might just build this as a commercial release.
