HumanEdgeTech Netbooks & Tablets Are Fit for an Antarctic Expedition [Need a Rugged Computer or Tablet For Your Next Trek to the South Pole? HumanEdgeTech Sells These at a Premium Price]

Notebooks, netbooks and tablets are ubiquitous nowadays. Whether at the office, school or coffee shop, you’re bound to come across someone working (or playing) on one. But what if you want to go somewhere more rugged?

Sure, you can get yourself a rugged case and solar charging kit, but a company called HumanEgdeTech sells ruggedized tablets and netbooks for a premium price.

The HumanEdgeTech Expedition netbook is a  modified HP Mini 110 that comes with a 1.66 GHz Intel Atom processor, 60 GB shock-mounted hard drive, and can be tethered to a satellite phone for connectivity. The base model sells for $895, although you can get yourself a kit complete with solar charger, satellite phone, data plan, rugged case and miscellaneous rugged accessories for $4,600.

Meanwhile, the company’s Polar Pad tablet is a modified HP Slate 500, sold for $1,095 for the ruggedized base model or $4,800 for a complete kit. These aren’t your run-of-the-mill netbook and tablet computer, as the company promises durability in extreme climates and terrain. At these prices, you’d expect a warranty, although sadly HumanEdgeTech doesn’t cover for any damage.
