Battlefield 3 Frame Rate To Be Locked At 30 Frames Per Second On Consoles [Xbox 360 & PlayStation 3 To Have Half The Frame Rate Of Modern Warfare 3, Does This Mean That Call Of Duty Will Be More Popular, Or Just A Benefit For The PC?]
DICE has been promising that the PC will be the “lead platform” for Battlefield 3, and in case you didn’t believe them, they confirmed last week the console versions of Battlefield 3 will be locked at 30 frames per second in order to fit in all the graphics effects and things. Some are already wondering if this revelation will give an advantage to BF3’s big rival this holiday season – Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

One of the trends that Infinity Ward has been responsible for in the gaming industry is “making 60 frames per second matter.” They have locked their games at 60 frames per second, giving their games an awesome silky smooth look. But, with BF3 only being at 30 fps on the consoles, does that mean that MW3 will look better to the average console gamer?
On Twitter, DICE’s Johan Andersson explained:
no we always do 30 fps on consoles, not possible to fit in vehicles, fx, scale and all players otherwise
The real winner here is (and continues to be) the PC gamers who will be able to enjoy Battlefield 3 in all of its majestic glory.
A lot of people are paying attention to Battlefield 3 and the reception it will receive from console gamers. DICE promises that it will be a “big scale” Battlefield shooter, in the same vein that Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2 were. But, Electronic Arts is positioning it as a direct rival to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Call of Duty games usually emphasis small squad vs. squad combat, whereas the traditional Battlefield game has big maps and tons of vehicles, including jets that nobody can fly right. We’ll have to see if Battlefield 3 is a traditional Battlefield game, and if it is, will the console gamers who love their Call of Duty will care for the game.
