Pottermore Website Mystery Revealed, Will Be The Exclusive Home Of Harry Potter Ebooks & More

Harry Potter Ebooks Coming In October, Will Be Available By Way Of The Pottermore Website & Powered By Overdrive

Just recently a new Harry Potter related website was revealed, it is called Pottermore. And while the initial speculation was that Pottermore would be an online game, it looks like the website will be the exclusive place to purchase ebook editions of the Harry Potter books.

Of course, it looks like Pottermore will be more than a place to simply purchase ebooks. In fact, judging from the video JK Rowling released on YouTube it looks like this will be a rather interesting experiment to watch unfold. The video is rather short in length, however it does come with quite a few teaser lines such as how it will provide an “online reading experience like no other” and that “Pottermore will be built in part by you the reader.”

More to the point though, Rowling noted that Pottermore will be the “exclusive place to purchase digital audio books and for the first time ebooks for the Harry Potter series.” And while you cannot currently get the Harry Potter series in ebooks, I have to admit a bit of confusion on the audiobook portion, only because the audiobooks are currently available in the iTunes Store. But that is assuming you don’t mind paying upwards of $50 for some of the titles. Or a little tip, visit your local library and get them on CD for free, that is what I did.

Anyway, before I stray any further off course and dive into my love of the Harry Potter series any further, lets shift back to the Pottermore website. And the bottom line here, while it will be nice to finally be able to purchase the series as an ebook, this is more interesting to me because it seems like it will be a unique way to get more about Harry Potter, and get it from the community of fans as well as the author.

As for the content aside from the original series, it was noted that JK Rowling currently has around 18,000 words of new material that covers “the characters, places and objects in the much-loved stories, which will inform, inspire and entertain readers as they journey through the storylines for the books.”

And in terms of device compatibility, the store will be powered by Overdrive and “compatible across a range of devices, including Amazon’s Kindle.” With that, the Pottermore website will officially launch in October, however according to the teaser on the site, you can “come back on 31st July to find out how you can get the chance to enter Pottermore early.”
