HTC Status Will Be The Name Of ChaCha On AT&T? [New Rumor Says That HTC ChaCha Facebook Phone Will Be Called The HTC Status In United States, Great Pun Pleases All]

A few days ago, we saw the HTC ChaCha (aka, the “Facebook phone”) made up in AT&T lively, apparently ready for release on that carrier’s network. Now, it’s being reported that the phone’s name could be the “HTC Status.” Get it, Facebook Status updates? Pretty pointed pun, uh?

This comes from website BGR, who claims a trusted source told them that the ChaCha will be called the HTC Status in the United States on AT&T. This isn’t the first time that the ChaCha has had its name changed. The phone is called the HTC ChaChaCha in Spain to prevent some sort of trademark/naming issue.

The HTC ChaCha/Status is one of the two Facebook phones unveiled by HTC back at the Mobile World Congress in February. On the surface, they’re regular Android devices, but they have a dedicated button that takes you right to Facebook. It’s a great way to keep yourself even more interconnected in the Facebook universe, if you are willing.

Here’s the rest of the specs on the ChaCha/Status:

  • 800MHz processor
  • 2.6-inch touchscreen
  • Android 2.2 w/ HTC Sense
  • 512MB RAM
  • 512MB Memory w/ microSD slot for expansion
  • 5MP camera w/ LED flash
  • 1.3MP VGA front-facing camera

The HTC Salsa is the other Facebook phone from HTC, but it’s just a touchscreen device without the physical keyboard. Since the young people these days like texting and sending Facebook messages at 100wpm, I think they’ll find the physical keyboard more appealing. But, who knows. No word on when the Salsa is coming, but the Status could be coming any day now since image of the device are starting to leak out.
