Crytek Says Their Plan For Crysis 2 ‘Backfired’ [Crytek Says Their Decision To Tone Down The Graphics Requirements For Crysis 2 Came Back To Bite Them]

When the original Crysis was released for PC back in 2007, it was used as an example by many of how good their PC hardware was – “I can run Crysis on very high settings,” was all you needed to say to someone to let them know that you had a beast of a gaming rig. In a move that alienated some fans of the first game, Crytek decided to tone down the requirements in Crysis 2 in order to accommodate console players and those with less powerful PCs.

Crytek now says that move “backfired” on them. “Crysis 1′s intention was, if I were to play it three years later, it looks great,” Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli told Gamasutra. “And it does, actually, it fulfilled that. But it made it difficult for entry-level players. So with Crysis 2, we took a different direction, and it backfired a little bit.”

PC players are about to get a DirectX 11 update to Crysis 2, along with a high-res texture upgrade coming with the next patch, in attempt to try and smooth over some of the tension between Crytek and PC players who wanted Crysis 2 to be as visually stunning as the original was (for the time).

“This is much more like a gift to the high-end community,” Yerli continued, clarifying that this update will be free to all. “And I think gamers will appreciate that. It lifts up Crysis 2 and gives a sneak peak of how PC gaming will evolve in the future, if you support a high-end preference.”

Crysis 2 patch 1.9 will be released next Monday, June 27th. After that, high-end PC owners will be able to turn Crysis into more of the graphical powerhouse they were hoping to receive at launch.

We want to know what you think, though: were you disappointed that Crysis 2 didn’t push the limits of your hardware like the original, or are you just happy you could run it on your computer? Is the DirectX 11 update enough to get you interested in the game again? Let us know how you feel in the comments section below.

Crysis 2 was a double edge sword in one hand Crysis 2 even with DX 11 and Large texture packs, lacks the cutting edge tech we have come to love about Crytek. they took a huge step back to cater to a group of gamers that do not even enjoy what a company like crytek has to offer.PS everyone i know who played it on console returned it or exchanged it 2 days later.

on the second hand crytek did an Amazing job with the foundations of the game they did make, the story and visuals such as cinematic’s were much more involving bring rules and standards from film into the game which made for a much more adhesive thrilling story then Crysis 1 or Warhead.

with that said Crytek Should have kept true to their free roaming experience of Crysis 1. and glowing item you can kick or pick up is straight cheap pathetic graphic don’t do it even for consoles

again i bought and like Crysis 2 for PC the good does out way the bad and i am thrilled to see what they do next :)
