More Duke Nukem On The Way, Take-Two Says
Duke Nukem Forever has been somewhat of a dividing force among gamers lately. Some absolutely hate it: Duke Nukem Forever has massacred all that was awesome about their childhood and left them a devastated shell of the person they once were. Others merely take it for what it is, never expected much from a game that has been in development for 14 years in the first place, and are managing to have a pretty good time.

Regardless of how you feel, there’s more Duke on the way according to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, who told Forbes that we’d be seeing the publisher (and presumably Gearbox) do more with the IP in the future.
“We don’t really talk about it in detail but you will see future Duke IP coming from this company,” he said. “Part of it is the economic opportunities that interact with entertainment are so huge. Part of it is that we are very creative folks in control. Part of it is we don’t want to ever be in the position of dumping something down just to make another buck.”
“If we can take some of our intellectual property and bring it to another medium in an extraordinary high quality way, that delights consumers and represents an interesting commercial opportunity for us, we will. We have certainly considered doing that with BioShock and with other titles. So far we haven’t brought anything to market, but stay tuned.”
Let’s be honest, too: handing Gearbox the unfinished Duke Nukem Forever after it’s already been in development for over a decade and telling them to finish it isn’t really giving them the chance to flex their creative muscles with the IP. We know that Gearbox is a great studio that’s produced some great games, and if they built a new Duke game from scratch, the results would probably exceed those of Duke Nukem Forever.
So, how about it? Is Duke dead, or can Gearbox deliver a solid Duke Nukem experience if they’re given the opportunity to work from the ground up? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below!
