Lego Universe Getting Free To Play Trial In August
If you’ve been growing tired of World of Warcraft and think the persistent world of Lego Universe is worth a look, you might want to hold off for just a bit, because the Lego Group has issued a press release announcing that the MMO will go free to play this August.

Well, it isn’t exactly going to be free to play, as players will only be granted limited access to the game’s content before they have to start shelling out a subscription fee. This is actually more along the lines of a trail that never expires, because The Lego Group says they don’t plan to start offering anything that resembles a micro-transaction and the subscription fee isn’t going away, but that players will have free access to the content offered for as long as they want.
“The LEGO Universe free-to-play experience will offer a limited selection of game content, including two adventure zones and one player property area for building their own virtual LEGO models,” the press release said. “Paying members will have access to all areas in the full game, along with membership benefits such as competitions and community events. In addition to the 15+ robust adventure zones and instances as well as 5+ property worlds currently in-game, access to new expansions, like major Ninjago content coming later this year, will require players to register for full membership.”
Of course, the free trial will require that the game enters the realm of digital distribution, but the Lego Group says once this free trail rolls out, the game will only be available digitally. So, are any of you going to check this one out when the free trial is offered? If you’re already a Lego Universe player, how do you like it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
