Kinect In-Game Advertisements Detailed, Coming Next Year
There’s a lot of things that Kinect can do – the numerous Kinect hacks floating around the internet prove that – but next year it’s going to add one more skill to its repertoire: selling you stuff you don’t need. Microsoft detailed what they’re calling “natural user-interfaced ads” (NUads for short) today, and if nothing else, at least they give you more things to shout at your TV.

For instance, say you happen upon an ad that is particularly thought-provoking or profound, you can say “Xbox Tweet” and share that ad with your contemporaries. Or, if you see an ad for pizza and realize that you forgot to eat dinner because you were so into Kinectimals, you can say “Xbox Near Me” and get a map to the nearest pizza place sent right to your phone.
Likewise, if you see an ad for a TV show catches your eye, say “Xbox Schedule” to get a text message reminder of when that show airs, and if you ever find yourself not getting enough spam, say “Xbox More” when you see an ad to have an email containing more details on the product sent off to your inbox. Finally, you’ll also be able to vote in polls held by advertisers by flailing your arms in front of your TV.
These new marketing options are being previewed to advertisers today at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, and they’ll start hitting Xbox 360s next spring. So, can we get three cheers for in-game ads? Anyone?
